QEW Mini-grants in 2009...
The funded Quaker Mini-Grant projects for 2009 included
- the installation of energy
efficient meeting house windows,
- A meeting house composting system &
community garden,
- A"Weed Wrench" and composting material for a
historic Quaker cemetery,
- A new Energy Star refrigerator,
- A
Friends/community herb garden project,
- A project for de-leading
the meeting house soil.
Three additional grants were for
- A summer camp
program offering environmental programming,
- A Friends School
environmental workshop, and
- A project to rehabilitate a part of a
Friend Meeting nature preserve.
We are impressed with both the
outreach and the practical applications of the Mini-Grants. Every
project presented reflects a highly effective way to help our
environment.
QEW Mini-grants in 2008...
In 2008 QEW awarded $200 matching grants to five Quaker Meetings or affiliated groups to encourage them to undertake a variety of spirit-led ecological projects. They included 1) Support for the Quaker Bike Trek, in which a group of Friends witnessed for Earth-friendlier travel by biking from Philadelphia to Johnstown, Pa., the site of the 2008 Friends General Conference Gathering, 2) Support for a Quaker-run nature education project in a school district, 3) Replacement of old toilets in a Meeting house with new water-conserving models, 4) Construction of a covered bicycle shed at a Meeting house, and 5) Support for a wildlands restoration project in New Mexico that involves local Quakers.
