The Ann Kriebel/San Luis (AKSL) Committee

The Ann Kriebel/San Luis Committee was formed in the early 1990s, when Quaker Earthcare Witness (then Friends Committee on Unity with Nature) decided to help raise funds for the purchase of land for an "Eco-justice" and "Sustainable agriculture" project in Costa Rica called Finca la Bella (Beautiful Farm). (To learn more about the Finca la Bella project, go to the "Finca la Bella" page of the QEW projects section of this website.)

Once the 121-acre tract in the northern mountains of Costa Rica had been secured and divided among 24-formerly landless families, the AKSL committee arranged for periodic visitation by North American Quakers and consultation with local sponsoring organizations, including a committee representing the farm's families and members of the Quaker community in nearby Monteverde.

The AKSL Committee is currently providing guidance and financial help as the Finca la Bella community goes through the process of updating its internal convenant according to Costa Rica law and the goals and aspiration of the farm families.
